IS THE WRITERS’ STRIKE A U.S. GOVERNMENT PLOT TO DO AWAY WITH DISSENT?

Certain late-night talk-shows have done a lot of damage to the credibility of the current U.S. administration and these same shows have also introduced the viewing public to some very able competition in both parties, maybe not the ones hand-picked by the current government and big money to succeed it. Could the strike by the unsuspecting writers (holding out for revenues from the internet when the television industry is in real trouble?) be a smokescreen?

Maybe this has already been suggested somewhere but I haven’t seen anything.

So the Zapruder film of Bhutto’s last minutes has emerged. One of my very close relatives who is a serious conspiracy theorist thinks Zapruder (✞1970) did it.

One thing for certain is that Mrs. Bhutto’s timely demise sucked the life out of that Siberian tiger mauling. It was not the Boxing Day Tsunami but it was a pretty good one until yesterday’s violent attack on the PPP rally where Benazir bumped her head in the ensuing mêlée causing her to die. Why in Allah’s name was she standing up in a moving vehicle? She should have been wearing a crash helmet. That poor woman left a trail of destruction everywhere she went.

I hate to sound like the Grinch that stole Christmas but there’s this TV ad featuring images of impossibly beautiful sleeping babies over a soundtrack of the hymn “Silent Night” sung softly by a very familiar voice (Eh Céline, honey is that U?) and all the while we’re being set up..it’s a thoughtful Christmas ad for a big unselfish NGO (are there any?), singer probably donated her performance (she’s such a fine human being)…and then the smelly word PAMPERS appears. Asscrap! Roll Over Beethoven. Okay. It’s not by Loudwig. It’s by J. Mohr/F.X. Gruber (Salzburg’s Timpani Alley Munchkins) What’s the diff? It’s public domain.

Had I known there was a film in the works I would have taken my little carrot to L.A. where I’ve no doubt she would have secured the role of Little Edie. Sadly, she rotted in the crisper. Maybe this year Cain (Dane) will grow a Susan Boyle look-alike parsnip. Middle-aged dames are the flavour of the day. Is nobody else watching the telly?

Karlheinz Stockhausen has ‘kicked the bucket’ at the age of 79. A last performance piece that will reverberate in eternity. Mulroney must be asking himself ‘why couldn’t it have been my Karlheinz S?’

if you click on “a trip down memory lane” in the left-hand column you will see that my old cartoons, still parked at huffpo, have banner ads bought by the obama for prez people. i wonder if obama’s handlers know they are paying good money to get their ads run on pages of outdated cartoons on the defunct old huffpo site, the equivalent of baltic ave. on the monopoly board, and accessible only from the p.i.t.s.o.l. site. the very same ads also run on the huffpo homepage, the boardwalk of internet sites.
